Our Mission

The mission of the Chatham Bookstore is to provide a comfortable destination for browsing, learning, exploring and connecting. We are committed to enriching lives by sharing our love and appreciation for books and learning. We believe in personally selecting books and other merchandise that readers of all ages will enjoy and find worthwhile. We hope to continue growing in community, learning more about what our customers want every day, and adjusting our selection accordingly. We acknowledge that we are stewards of the bookstore, and are committed to extending its legacy by honoring the books that we sell and the community we serve.

Sharon Weinberg, owner

Owning the Chatham Bookstore is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream!  I want to know what you’re reading – and I want to help you find your next great book!

Amy Zimmerman, Manager

Amy is a writer, journalist, and, like the rest of the staff, a lifelong reader. She's excited to be a part of this next chapter in the Chatham Bookstore's storied history, and is particularly looking forward to bringing more literary events and author talks to the store.

Barbara Doyle, Bookseller

Barbara was a literature major at Ithaca College and loves to read. She has a variety of interests and has worked as a bank teller and manager of a llama farm before joining the Bookstore staff.

Gloria Autrey, Bookseller

After teaching English at the Chatham Middle School for 33 years, Gloria joined the staff at the bookstore. She is often found in the children’s room, staying current with the juvenile and young adult literature; her grandkids keep her knowledgeable about books for the younger ones. When reading adult literature, her first choice is a mystery, especially ones by Harlan Coben, David Rosenfelt, or Michael Connelly.

Patti Scheppman, Bookseller

Trained as a reading specialist, Patti taught for three years before raising her children. She has been a bookseller for more than twenty years at the Chatham Bookstore. Her favorite books include classic novels, nonfiction adventure stories and biographies.

Schuyler Fohrhaltz-Burbank, Bookseller

Schuyler Forhrhaltz-Burbank is a grad student at Simmons studying archival management. She is an avid lover of queer fiction and non-fiction. She hopes to work in queer and trans archives, promoting minority group histories. Always ready to help and talk about her experiences as a queer and trans woman.
